The History of Automobiles

Automobiles are vehicles with four wheels that are used for transportation. They can seat anywhere from one to eight people. Most of these vehicles are used to move people from point A to point B. There are many definitions of automobiles. The most common one states that cars run on roads, have four wheels, and are primarily used for transportation.

Henry Ford

In 1893, Henry Ford began building automobiles. His first automobile was a one-cylinder gasoline model. The first car was so crude that it sputtered on a wooden table in the kitchen. Despite its crude appearance, it was a great success. By June 1896, the Model A was a fully functional car.

Karl Benz

Karl Benz Automobiles is an iconic American automaker that was established in 1872 in Dayton, Ohio. Founded by an avid engineer, Benz developed several important automobiles over the years. These innovations included the two-stroke engine, the spark plug, and the gear shift. After marrying his wife in 1872, Benz concentrated his work on manufacturing automobiles and received several patents.

Rene Panhard

Automobiles are one of the most important inventions of the early twentieth century. Rene Panhard was born in Paris on May 27, 1841. He was a member of a wealthy family that had been in the business of making carriages for the upper class. While attending the Ecole Centrale, he was a classmate of Emile Levassor. They formed a partnership and soon became specialists in automobiles. Their cars were the first to have a valveless engine and sliding gear transmission.

Edouard Delamare-Debouteville

Edouard Delamare-Deboutesville is a well-known French automotive entrepreneur and a descendant of a long line of industrialists. His father, Francois Delamare (1801-1881), was one of the earliest cotton filators in France. Edouard married Lucile Audibert de Boutteville, the daughter of a cotton filator. He received his education at the Ecole supérieure de commerce in Rouen and later worked for the family business.

Daimler

Daimler automobiles have a history that stretches back over a century. In 1901, the company introduced a new model series called Daimler-Mercedes, after the German-born businessman Emil Jellinek named it for his daughter. Jellinek was a progressive thinker and enthusiastic about automobiles. He visited the Daimler factory in Cannstatt and ordered his first car, which was powered by a six-horsepower two-cylinder engine.

Daimler-Maybach

Daimler-Maybach is the brand name of a German automobile manufacturer. Its history dates back to the 1870s, when the company was founded in Reutlingen. The company was originally known as the Bruderhaus and it had charitable purposes. During its early years, many of its workers were orphans. The company’s founder, Daimler, became close friends with his industrial designer friend Wilhelm Maybach. In his spare time, Maybach designed agricultural equipment and machinery.

Benz

Benz Automobiles is a German car brand. They produce commercial and luxury vehicles. Their headquarters are in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg.
